Darla stared out the back window of the Uber, her head attempting to make sense of what she had experienced at Faith’s home. She felt terrible for the family, and she hated how a loved one’s death could turn into something about money and possessions. It should be a time of coming together to support one another, but apparently Reed and Elaine were bent on turning it into something hateful and sour. Everyone grieved in their own way, and she knew that a lot of this was just them trying to deal with their emotions and take control of something in a world that likely suddenly seemed painfully out of control. But it was still selfish behavior.

She kept thinking about Fauna as well. She really had acted strange, and Darla couldn’t shake that. The girl had been rather defensive when Darla had brought up her odd behavior.

Then there was Faith and Edith. Darla couldn’t help but feel like they’d been celebrating Monroe’s death with bottomless mimosas, even though they’d tried to act like they weren’t happy about it. Of course, Edith hadn’t been on the yacht and therefore couldn’t have been able to enact revenge for the man’s affairs. Plus, she was in a relationship now that seemed quite happy. Faith, on the other hand, had blatantly admitted to Darla that the death of her husband was a relief and that she should have left him a long time ago.

Darla thought about the family while the Uber took her back to the food trucks. She watched the houses fly by and noticed they were getting smaller. Darla realized they were almost in town. She drifted off again thinking about Faith, Edith, and Fauna. She also thought about what Edith’s children were doing to Faith. Why would they try and get the yacht? It sounded like they had gotten enough money to buy their own yacht. Darla shook her head. Money could solve some problems but also created a plethora of other problems.

Darla continued staring out the window, deep in contemplation and trying to ignore the terrible dub music the driver was playing. As she was staring distractedly, they started to pass by the police station, and Darla spotted an unusual sight—India was up on a ladder under a tall window of the station, a pair of binoculars around her neck.

“Hey! You can let me off here!” Darla yelped, hurrying to pay the man via the app on her phone. The second he pulled over, she bolted from the car and hurried through the police station parking lot. India was just barley managing to dangle on the ladder while looking into the police station’s window. I swear, sometimes it feels like I’m this woman’s babysitter!

“India!” Darla shrieked in a whisper, not wanting to attract the attention of any police officers. “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Darla heard a hissing snarl, and she looked down to see Josie tied up to the bottom of the ladder by her leash. “Dang!” she yelped, jumping back.
